Community of Learning and Practice
PDK International is hosting it’s 3rd convening of the Community of Learning and Practice on December 5, 2018 at 6:00pm at The Hyatt Regency Lake Washington (1053 Lake Washington Blvd N, Renton, WA 98056).
The theme for the convening: “Expanding our reach – How do we organize for collective impact, equity, and social justice in public education?”
Given the challenges facing public education and leaders across school systems in our nation, now more than ever, we believe we have to create spaces for educators and other supporters and influencers of public education to engage in honest and critical discourse about what it means to (a) lead through complexity, (b) be unapologetic about changes that must take place, and (c) strategically organize ourselves for collective impact within our respective contexts and at scale.
We hope to push the discourse about leading through complexity by creating a space for leaders to think about their beliefs, the roles they play, and their work to promote equitable and anti-racist practices. We also hope that each and every one of us will leave the dinner event with a few new friends and allies, strengthened connections, a sense of hope, and more fuel for the important journey we are all on to improve and transform public education.
Dr. Carl Cohn, clinical professor in the School of Educational Students at Claremont Graduate University, will serve as our guest speaker for the evening. Dr. Cohn’s distinguished career in education has spanned more than 30 years. Throughout this time, he has worked in a variety of educational capacities, including teacher, counselor, professor, superintendent and federal court monitor. Earning his EdD in Administrative and Policy Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, Cohn has personified the valuable role of a research practitioner, expanding the field of education in a variety of ways.
